When I lost my sight, it was a challenging time that led me through a period of deep reflection. After accepting my new reality, I asked myself, “What comes next?” and “How do I navigate life without sight?”
Initially, I turned to Braille, a natural starting point for many blind individuals. But along this journey, I encountered a world of possibilities beyond traditional methods. I discovered that technology could be a bridge to independence. Today, assistive technologies empower blind people to use computers and smartphones—tools that have reshaped my path.
Assistive technologies are tools that help people with disabilities complete tasks. For the blind, screen readers are a game-changer. These text-to-speech applications convert written content, buttons, and links into spoken words, making devices accessible to us. With a screen reader, I can read emails, browse the internet, use social media, and navigate various apps.
This technology opened doors for me—allowing me to earn a Computer Science degree, work as an IT Specialist, publish a book, and even start my own business.
For me, the screen reader is more than just a tool; it’s a gateway to active participation in both the digital world and society at large. It became the major game changer for my life as a blind person.
